Not to toot my own horn...

...but my new job has been a pretty affirming experience.

So I walk into this gas bar super station two weeks ago and I'm looking for a job. I get pointed right in the direction of the manager Gary. He takes a quick look at my resume and ask me to come to the back room for an interview for a full time position 3pm-11pm Monday to Friday.

However, I didn't get the job I was interviewed for. But on Monday (a little over a week later) I call him back, and over the phone he says "You can start tomorrow, see you at 7am".

So I show up for my first 7am-3pm shift, and I guess I catch on pretty quick. (It's mostly real common sense how to use a register stuff. There are specifics here and there, but the system is set up so it's all pretty simple, and it prompts you for most things etc...) All day long I receive compliments on how quick I'm catching on. At the end of the day, the number of things to learn and get comfortable with is half as long as the one belonging to the full-time guy they hired.

Today (my second day) it was more of the same. Several more comments about how quick I'm picking this up, compared to the guy who had been working there a week now. Even when I forget to charge a guy for gas I get a few comments of "make sure you put the gas on first etc. (To be fair I was helping an old lady find her way to a church. Apparently she had been looking for so long that she had already missed the funeral and needed to get their quickly)

[After my mild talking to, they tell me "Gary must really like you. Usually when there is a drive off Gary gets really mad, and leaves the store for a few hours to calm down before he delivers his stern "don't do it again".)

I chalk it up to my "It's my second day" get out of jail free card. But either way...

Anyway the point of the story is:

Today before I go home they say "Show up at 3pm tomorrow. Your now working 3-11, Monday to Friday for the summer."

Whooha Full-time!
